So, I've been doing some thinking tonight and when that happens, I write. Here are some common reasons people choose not teach Sunday School.... 1. "I don't have time." β³ Well, just like myself, you have time to go to different events/hobbies of your choosing. β³ποΈββοΈ(Jk I don't golf!) π You have time to cart your kids to every sports practice imaginable. β½βΎππππ€ΌββοΈππΎπ You have time to watch TV. πΊ You for sure have time to scroll for hours on your smartphone... online shopping anyone?!? π€³ So I can assure you, you have time to spare about an hour per week to plan a lesson and then another half hour on Sunday morning to teach that lesson. β° Sunday School is from 9-10 each Sunday morning and your class is 20-25 mins long and then music is 20-25 mins long. πΆ Easy peasy! βΊοΈ 2. "I don't want to be tied down every weekend." π This is a common one as we all live such busy lives and have lots of things planned every weekend. I, myself, usually have a super hectic weekend schedule with my kids' activities and sports. πΉπ΅π€Όππ And that doesn't even count when I'm in the field π or at the greenhouse π». The best way to combat this concern is to find a friend who you can partner up with and make a plan to alternate Sundays or each take a month and swap days as your schedules require. We can make it work to be convenient for you! β PS. I really do need a partner for my class! Call me! π 3. "I don't have kids in Sunday School." π« Great news! This is an easy one! You do not have to have kids in Sunday School to join our team! Phew! Unless you give me a really good reason toπ, I will not turn away a volunteer. π In fact, anyone in our congregation can step up to lead a class. It is all of our congregation and our church, so to keep our youth ministry alive and well, which in turn keeps a church growing and thriving, we need commitments across all generations. βͺ 4. "I don't know enough about The Bible to teach it." βοΈππ This one is tricky and I'm here to tell you, I get it!!!! π This is the excuse I have running through my head all the time! Am I religious enough to teach the kids? π How do I answer their questions? β Do I have any Bible verses memorized besides John 3:16??? π¨π Trust me, you do not need to know the Bible backwards and forwards to do this! βοΈ We are not trained in theology and scripture, and thankfully, we don't have to be! π That's what we have Pastor Bruce for!!!!! π We will provide you with age appropriate class materials and supplies. If you ever have any questions, we are all here to help and as a team we can all do great things together. π (And Pinterest will become your best friend!) π 5. "I am not a teacher." π©βπ«π¨βπ« Well, guess whatβοΈ Neither am I (educationally speaking). For real!!! Yes, we have school teachers that have answered this call. βοΈ But we also have non-teachers, as well. We aren't focused on classroom management and meeting standards here. π― (But it doesn't hurt to take some tried-and-true pointers from our professional teachers..."Classity, class!") We are instead focused on sharing a love for Jesus with our kids, so that they will grow in faith and choose to follow Him throughout their lives. π This is a big task we are asking of you, and it definitely is a huge responsibility. But if you feel called to this, please pray about it and give it a chance. π It is one of the most rewarding things you can do as a follower of Christ. βοΈ I promise, you will not regret it. π And in reality, we are actually all just students of Jesus and learning right along with the kids in the room. I know I am! π So with that, I hope this was able to speak to you in some way to maybe take the leap to join our faith education team! We appreciate each and every volunteer we have and our hope is that you find your place and will feel like this is part of your own personal walk with Christ. βοΈπΆπΆββοΈπΆββοΈπΆββοΈπΆπΆββοΈπΆ If you made it through all that, thank you for your time and sticking with me! If you feel like this is something you want to do, please contact myself or Tracy Iverson to volunteer! We appreciate all your prayers and look forward to another faithful year of Sunday School at St. John's! βͺ Thank You, Sara J
These items were left behind at the church today. Stop in and check the library for your stuff. Thanks!

VBS Day 1 is going so well today! We will need some more volunteers to bring baked goods tomorrow. Cookies or bars will be great. Thank you!

Don't forget to pack a lunch for your kids for Wed and Thurs. (No easy mac or microwave things, please.) If you volunteered to bring baked goods, please just drop them by the church and label VBS on the items. Make sure your kids have clothes that are ok to get dirt or paint on them. Hello everyone! I know I've been asking a bunch, but I really do need two parents, grandparents, or other congregation members to volunteer to teach Sunday School for this semester, through May. We have an open spot in Kindergarten/pre-K and one in 3rd grade. With having the most kids we have had in years, I really need some more volunteers! More kids, means more parents to help out. Please let me know if you can do it. At the very least, if I could get a group of people to commit to a month at a time and then we can maybe fill out the year that way. Please let me know if you can help! Thank you! Sara J
We would like to celebrate our three special 5th grade girls that received their First Communion last night at our Maundy Thursday service. Congratulations to Hannah, Taryn, and Brooklyn! We are all so proud of you! βͺπ₯π·βοΈπ
